🏔️ Hiking
There’s nothing I love more than exploring the incredible landscape around Arizona. From the trails of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve to the red rocks of Utah and the alpine peaks of Colorado, hiking lets me clear my mind and reconnect with nature.
One of the highlights of my life was completing a rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon in the fall of 2021. This was a bucket list item that had been delayed by the pandemic twice, but finally making it happen was an unforgettable experience. The scale, the geology, the raw beauty of it all—it’s something everyone should experience at least once.
đźš´ Mountain Biking
Whether it’s cross-country or downhill mountain biking, I’m always looking for the next great trail. My son and I are passionate about this, and we had the privilege of being among the first chairs to open the 2022 season at Purgatory in Colorado.
I also regularly ride the amazing trail systems around Phoenix. There’s a unique thrill to carving through desert terrain, testing your skills, and pushing your limits. Mountain biking combines the adventure of the outdoors with an incredible physical and mental challenge.
🏊 Triathlon
I’m a proud 2x Ironman. My first full Ironman was in St. George, Utah in 2011—an incredibly challenging year with temperatures hitting 90+ degrees during the run. The mental and physical demands of that race taught me so much about perseverance and what we’re capable of when we push ourselves.
My second Ironman in Arizona in 2014 was a perfect day on the course, though the wind on the bike portion was fierce. Completing an Ironman is one of the most rewarding achievements of my life. It’s not just about the distance; it’s about the journey of training, the community of athletes, and discovering what’s possible.
Why I Love the Outdoors
The outdoors has been central to my identity for as long as I can remember. Whether I’m on a trail, on a bike, or training for a big race, being outside keeps me grounded, energized, and connected to what matters. It’s where I process challenges, celebrate victories, and just enjoy being alive.
Living in Arizona gives me year-round access to incredible natural spaces. The Phoenix Mountain Preserve is my backyard. Utah’s landscapes are breathtaking. Colorado’s mountains inspire awe. And the Grand Canyon reminds me of how small we are in the grand scheme of things.
These experiences—hiking, biking, and racing—are more than just activities. They’re a way of life. They teach you about resilience, goal-setting, teamwork, and the importance of taking care of yourself. If you’re ever looking for recommendations on trails or races, I’d love to talk about it!
